Proper Care for Your Porcelain

What is Porcelain?

Porcelain is a hidden gem in the design world. With a look similar to granite or marble, this unique material is now readily available from manufacturers in the United States.

A super versatile material, StoneWorks clients have utilized Porcelain in a variety of construction and remodeling projects, including floors, walls, backsplashes, countertops, and fireplaces. Porcelain provides a look that is unmatched by any other product. It can also be installed outside because it’s both heat and frost-tolerant for use in outdoor kitchens in any season. In addition, there’s no need to worry about sun damage, as it is completely UV resistant.

Porcelain is nonporous, so it’s a safe and healthy option for food preparation. Stain-free and extremely heat-resistant, porcelain makes a perfect choice for countertops.

How to care for Porcelain

If you’re tired of scrubbing grout in the bathroom, then this could be your solution! Porcelain surfaces are inhospitable to the growth of bacteria and other microbes such as mold. In addition to containing no allergens, porcelain surfaces are impenetrable by allergens in the environment, like dirt, dust, dust mites, and pollen. Also, Porcelain is “impervious” to moisture, meaning it has a water absorption of 0.5%

or less.

Large Porcelain slabs on the walls, floors, showers, and tubs eliminate grout seams and create a spa-like atmosphere. In fact, we dare you to find the seams in a properly installed porcelain project!

Porcelain is super easy to maintain! To keep your Porcelain looking in top shape – simple is your best bet.

Regular, basic cleaning with warm water and mild soap is usually sufficient. You can use your favorite gentle, multi-purpose cleaners to remove soap scum, hard water deposits, and mildew. And you won’t need harsh scrubbers like sponges or toothbrushes. Don’t worry about using the types of chemical cleaners you would have to use with natural stone.

It’s important to avoid using products that contain ammonia or bleach (or any type of acid-based cleanser) when cleaning your Porcelain. These can alter the Porcelain’s color. And never use oil-based detergents or wax cleaners.

Want to choose Porcelain for your next project?

A great way to save money, time, and labor on an installation or renovation project is by using Porcelain slabs from StoneWorks.
